Bonfire Night can be a fun and festive time for people, but for our small pets, it’s often a night of stress and fear. The loud bangs, flashing lights, and smoky air can be frightening, especially for sensitive animals like rabbits, guinea pigs, and hamsters. Here’s how you can help keep them calm and comfortable.

🏡 Create a Safe, Quiet Space

If your pets live outdoors, consider moving their hutch or cage indoors for the evening, into a shed, garage, or even a quiet room in the house. If bringing them inside isn’t possible, cover their enclosure with thick blankets or tarpaulin (leaving space for ventilation) to muffle noise and block flashes of light.

🎶 Add Comfort and Distraction

Play soft music or leave a radio on to help mask the sound of fireworks. Add extra hay or bedding so your pets can burrow and feel secure. Familiar scents, toys, and treats can also help soothe them. Discover more about our range of White Rabbit Hay here.

🔥 Check Before You Light

Always check bonfires and wood piles before lighting them! Wild hedgehogs, frogs, and even curious rabbits may have taken shelter inside. A quick inspection could save a life.

🌌 Stay Calm

Animals pick up on our emotions. Staying relaxed and keeping to your normal routine can help reassure your pets that everything is okay.
